Welcome Maria E. Peña, MD!

Edward M. Condon M.D., F.A.C.E.E.C.N.U. Medical Director of Condon Medical P.C. is pleased to announce a collaboration with and addition to our practice of Maria E. Peña M.D., A.B.O.M. Dr. Peña will extend her experience from St. Francis Hospital as Chief of our Cardio-Metabolic division.

Maria E. Peña, MD is a triple board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and Obesity Medicine who will substantially add to the capability of our endocrinology practice into the holistic view of the crossovers of cardiac disease, diabetes and obesity. Additionally, she will add a woman’s health view of our complex specialty.

Dr. Peña attended the highly competitive accelerated seven-year program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedicine where she was awarded several scholarships and graduated cum laude. She proceeded to finish the last two years of her clinical training at their affiliate school, New York Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree in 2008. Dr. Peña completed her Residency and Fellowship training at Northwell Health North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Hospital.

Dr. Peña is a member of numerous medical societies including: the American Diabetes Association and the Obesity Medicine Association. She also served as a member of the American Board of Obesity Medicine exam questions writing committee. She has given presentations at Medical Grand Rounds, is published in medical journals, including a chapter in Current Diabetes Reviews, and has presented her work at National Conferences. Dr. Peña is actively involved in Diabetes and Obesity education in the community. More recently she has volunteered her time and knowledge in helping change public health policies regarding obesity care and nutrition guidelines in NYC. She has also done several presentations on television and health magazines including Univision, Telemundo, Health Day, Reuters, U.S. News & World Report and other local media outlets.

Dr. Peña has held multiple leadership roles and spearheaded the growth of several hospital- based programs. These include her role as Director of the Center for Weight Management at Syosset Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital at Northwell Health. She also held the role of Physician Champion for the Diabetes Task Force and was Director of the Advanced Inpatient Diabetes Management for Disease Specific Joint Commission Certification for Syosset and Plainview Hospital. Dr. Peña was later asked to serve as the Director of Endocrine Services at Mount Sinai Hospital Forest Hills outpatient multispecialty practice and as the Medical Director for Mount Sinai Diabetes Alliance Program. Her most recent role was at St. Francis Hospital as Director of Cardiometabolic Disease.

Throughout her career, Dr. Peña has shifted her focus in providing a more holistic approach to endocrine disorders, obesity medicine, women’s hormonal disorders and the prevention of cardiometabolic disease. As a result, she decided to join forces with the highly experienced and renown Dr. Edward Condon to make this innovative approach to healthcare possible.

Dr. Peña’s schedule will open at both the Great Neck and Commack locations of Condon Medical. Both she and Dr. Condon will virtually and physically supervise care at the Medford and Hampton Bays offices as well.
